Sunday 22nd, September 2019,: an end of season with all the trimmings at Circolo Surf Torbole with the opening ceremony of the Olympic Class RS:X World Championships.

And it is a record again: the second RS:X Worlds most participated ever after the one in 2006 and for the second time the record is once again achieved here in Torbole.

For some countries and many athletes, this World Championships is one of the last possibilities to reach Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.

A lot of RS:X boards painted the last summer Lake Garda waters: to train, to gain confidence with the race course and with all the difference wind conditions. It is now the time for all hands on deck for Tokyo 2020 Olympic convocation: from September 24th to 28th, the Circolo Surf Torbole will host the RS:X World Championships. And since the 2006 first edition, it is the second record for Torbole in terms of participants: 250 athletes with their coaches from 47 countries will parade in Torbole on Saturday evening to celebrate the opening of the Worlds. Alessandra Sensini will also be present: the compatriot Olympic Champion and CONI vice president, as well as youth technical director, who won the first world championship of the new RS:X Olympic Class in 2006 here in Torbole. A victory that convinced her to come back and race in Beijing Olympic games winning the silver medal.
The Circolo Surf Torbole is now ready to organize – next week – the third World Championships of this challenging 2019: after the Windsurfer and the Kona Worlds, the season ends with the Olympic class excellence. In addition to Italy and France, the countries with the most number of participants are Israel, Great Britain, Spain and China, increasingly present on the podium of the major international events. Among the further away and unusual countries for Lake Garda, there will be Belarus, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, the Philippine, Singapore and Thailand.
“After the lengthy preparations, finally here we are: the top event of 2019 is now upon us!” – said the President of Circolo Surf Torbole, Armando Bronzetti – “over the past few months we hosted dozens of athletes who trained themselves during all the summer in our beautiful lake. Personally I am very proud to see one of our athletes, Nicolò Renna, racing in this worldwide big event after having seen him growing in all his youth important steps. It is a great satisfaction for us and a stimulus for many other young athletes of our racing team.”
After the opening ceremony on Sunday evening, there will be a practice race on Monday, 23rd and the first official races on Tuesday 24th.
